PREPARATIONS for Paris could not be going any better for a Flintshire athlete.

Deeside AAC’s Sabrina Fortune, who will be competing at the Paralympic Games in the French capital later this summer, has broken her own world record.

Fortune, 27, competes in the F20 shot put and she produced an effort of 14.83-metres during a senior meeting at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Sunday.

This improved Fortune’s world record by 10 centimetres and it shows she is in great form ahead of the Paralympics, which will run between August 28 and September 8.

Fortune has yet to strike gold at a Paralympics and at the Games in Tokyo three years ago, she finished fifth in the F20 shot put.

Eight years ago in Rio, a then personal best effort of 12.94-metres saw Fortune claim the bronze medal in the event during her debut Games.

Since then, Fortune has won gold at the 2018 World Championships in Berlin, while she is a three-time gold medal winner at the World Para Athletics Championships.

These triumphs came in Dubai in 2019, Paris in 2023 and Kobe this year.

It was at this latter event in May where Fortune set her previous world record.
