A FIRST goal on American soil was the reward as Wrexham women provided an improved display in their second match on tour.

Steve Dale’s Reds had opened their Wrex Coast Tour schedule with a 9-0 defeat at the hands of SoCal FC, however, they had to pick themselves up for the meeting with Tigres Femenil U19s just 48 hours later.

Carra Jones netted in the second half as Wrexham lost out 6-1 on this occasion, but there was an improved showing from the Reds.

As with the first match, action took place at the UCLA Drake Stadium, in Los Angeles.

The Mexican opponents, who are in the middle of their domestic season, asked plenty of questions of the Wrexham side during the first half in the Californian heat.

Errors played their part as Tigres built-up a 5-0 lead by the time the half-time whistle was sounded.

This was Wrexham’s second match in the space of three days, so understandably Dale rotated his line-up as U19 players Chloe Ankers, Emma Burnham and Anna Marsh were handed starting spots.

Opportunities were tough to come by in the opening defeat, but Wrexham were able to create more on this occasion and Ava Suckley saw plenty of the ball up front.

The Reds looked after the ball better after the break and their improved performance was rewarded with a goal 20 minutes from time.

After Brooke Cairns and Rebecca Pritchard had attempts blocked, Carra Jones fired her effort in off the underside of the crossbar.

Wrexham looked to be on course to win the second half, only for Tigres to score their sixth goal with a powerful 87th minute finish. However, Wrexham can take plenty from this showing as they look to complete their tour on a high later this week.

The Wrex Coast Tour now sees the team head north to Oregon where the Reds will come up against Portland Thorns Academy at Providence Park on July 26.
