NORTH WALES CRUSADERS’ hopes of reaching the League One play-offs were dealt a blow by a heavy home loss.
Hunslet took control in the second half at Colwyn Bay’s Stadiwm CSM to record a 46-16 success.
In a number of their matches so far this season, Crusaders have grabbed the first try and they were at it again during their latest contest.
After six minutes had elapsed, Dan Coates’ kick to the corner was safely gathered by Rob Massam and he went over for the try.
Hunslet hit back eight minutes later, though, as Jack Render grabbed the equalising try, converted by Matty Beharrell.
Ben Lane’s successful penalty tied things up once again in the 22nd minute and within six minutes, North Wales had the advantage once again.
After Shaun Costello’s charge down, player-coach Carl Forster picked the ball up to set up good field position. Crusaders made the most of this when a further kick from Coates resulted in Massam’s second try.
Noah Booth ran in from all of 90 metres for Hunslet within minutes, though, and this converted effort gave his side a slender 12-10 lead at the interval.
Hunslet took control of the game with second half tries by Cam Berry, Joe Law (2) and Liam Carr, while two more from Render confirmed his hat-trick.
In the last minute, Lane grabbed Cru’s third try.
Leaders Oldham thrashed Keighley Cougars 44-6 in the clash of the top-two, while Workington Town triumphed 30-8 at Cornwall and Rochdale pipped Midlands Hurricanes 14-10.
