WREXHAM held Premier League side AFC Bournemouth to a 1-1 draw in the opening game of the pre-season tour to North America.

Phil Parkinson’s side went 1-0 up at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, California, just before half-time when James McClean’s corner was headed into his own net by James Hill.

Played in hot conditions, the Reds were good value for their lead but Bournemouth, who finished 12th in the top-fight last season, equalised eight minutes into the second-half when Philip Billling found Marcos Senesi who headed home to put the Cherries back on level terms.

Bournemouth had chances to go ahead but the Reds held firm in the searing heat.

Parkinson changed the whole team in the 65th minute with summer signings Lewis Brunt, Callum Burton and Sebastian Revan coming on for their first Wrexham run-outs and Anthony Forde making his return from injury.

Forde and Steven Fletcher had chances to put Wrexham back in the lead but it finished all-square.

The Reds, who didn't risk playmaker Elliot Lee after he picked up a thigh injury during the 5-1 win at non-league outfit Hanley in the opening pre-season friendly the previous weekend, have two more matches during the Wrex Coast Tour.
Wrexham remain in California to face Premier League giants Chelsea in Santa Clara on Wednesday before heading to Canada for the first time to face Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on Saturday.

After clinching back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's history, Wrexham are preparing for the new League One campaign which kicks-off at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday August 10.
