WREXHAM athletes have achieved podium positions at a national event.

Brecon played host to the Welsh schools cup and plate finals, where Wrexham AAC’s Tomasi Fidow, representing Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, produced at effort of 9.03-metres to finish as the runner-up in the U14 boys’ shot put. Fellow Morgan Llwyd pupil Ethan Jones (32.23m) was third in the U14 boys’ javelin, while over in the U16 boys’ class, Lasitha Ekanayake (Castell Alun) clocked 25.60 to finish fourth in the 200m and Henry Ellis (St Josephs) was fifth in the discus (28.24m).

A number of Wrexham youngsters competed in the North Wales junior league meeting at Deeside.

Spencer Jones triumphed in both the U13 boys’ javelin (28.55m) and 1500m (4-58.6), while victory also went the way of Annabelle Jones (26.97) in the U15 girls’ javelin.

First place was taken by Ellis Jones (4.36m) in the U11 boys’ shot put, while Olivia Jones (15.79) won the U15 girls’ 75m hurdles, and was second in the long jump (3.72m) and javelin (24.72m).

Bethan Roberts (17.85m) won the U13 girls’ javelin, ahead of clubmate Darcey Jones (17.48m), who was the runner-up. Roberts (15.35) took third spot in the 100m, as did Olivia Dixon (4.05m) in the U11 girls’ shot put.

Rory Dixon took fifth in the U11 boys’ long jump (2.85m) and shot put (3.70m).

A strong home club turnout was seen as Wrexham staged the latest fixture in the Northern senior league.

In the senior women’s section, Lucy Jones (5.00m) won the long jump and was runner-up in the triple jump with a personal best of 10.51m, while Ellie Collins (27.65m) was second in the discus.

Isabelle Collins was third in both the shot put (9.01m) and hammer (28.19m), a feat emulated by Immy Jones in the 3000m (11-53.6).

Turning to the senior men’s class and Ewan Williams (11.0) won the 100m, while he was a member of the triumphant 4x100m relay team (44.6).

Liam McGivern (22.4) crossed the line first in the 200m and was part of the second-placed 4x400m relay team, while Oliver Edwards (51.8) and Glyn Wise (70.8) were third in the 400m and 400m hurdles respectively.

Luke Northall was second in the 3000m steeplechase (11-47.8) and third in the 5000m (16-54.8), while a busy day for Neil Edwards saw him win the 110m hurdles (23.7) and finish third in both the shot put (9.83m) and discus (30.20m).

An effort of 4.04m saw Jamie Lewis triumph in the B long jump, while fourth-placed finishes went the way of George Povah (2-32.4) and Neil Davies (1.40m), in the 800m and high jump respectively.

Daniel Williams, Richard Westwood and Thomas Spence also represented Wrexham AAC, who finished in third position on the day.

Deestriders Christine Cammillare, Paul Lewtey and Fred Aird took part in the Moel Famau relay, in which pairs of runners ran up or down the popular mountain.

Wrexham’s Jack Ball (12.80) was second in the senior men’s 100m at the Wenlock Games, while Matthew Clowes (30.50) crossed the line as runner-up in the Wilmslow summer 10k.

He was followed by Gwyn Roberts (575th in 43.55), Gary Bull (923rd in 47.38), Anna Moccia (1,246th in 52.01) and Karl Moore (1,693rd in 57.46).

Deestriders taking part were Joey Davies (38.37), Paul Lyth (41.59), Paul Lewtey (43.55) and Ryan Johnson-Wilcock (44.05).

Wrexham’s Grace Hughes and Evie Hughes took second and third respectively at the Crib Goch fell race in the Welsh championship series.

Deestriders Donna Griffiths, Alannah O’Brien and Marc Dixon took part in the Craig Petrie Memorial 5k at Greenfield Valley. The route was the reverse of the usual parkrun course, with Griffiths coming in as first lady.

Christine Cammillare completed the Snowdonia trail marathon as third V40 in an excellent 5-48.47, with Liz Turner running a good 7-13.01.

Gary Martin finished the half in 2-58.05 and Trevor Tommy was fourth V60 in 3-14.50. Sarah Curry completed the 10k in 1-19.55. Saturday was the fourth round of Deestriders’ Parkrun blitz competition, with most members heading for focus event Greenfield Valley.
