FOOTBALL is a funny old game!

Striker Danny Warren ended a hugely successful seven-year stint with Mold Alex over the summer and he opted to make the switch to Flintshire rivals Airbus.

His first competitive match with the Wingmakers will be Sunday’s first round showdown versus... Mold!

Airbus boss Mark Allen will be utilising his whole squad over the coming months and he told the club’s X site: “As any manager, you have your headaches with regards selection and people have performed during pre-season and people have been away.

“That’s what we have to deal with and on Sunday, we’ll select a team that we think’s going to win the game and go forward from there.

“But, again, a bit of a cliche, it’s a long season and I’m sure that the team that we pick on Sunday won’t be the team that we finish come April.

“So, we’re going to need everybody, as you do every single season and everyone will contribute and it’ll be what it is on Sunday with regards to who’s available and making sure that we select a team to win the game.”

Sunday will be Mold boss Barry Owen’s first competitive match in charge of the side.

He said: “I went to St Asaph at the end of January and it was a case of go there and things were going well.

“I believe I did a good job in Llanrwst, my hometown club.

“I nearly joined Mold in January, but I felt I’m more of a number one.

“But this opportunity came and it was an opportunity that was too good to turn down.”

Reflecting on the Sunday showdown, he added: “We will be prepared whatever day it is.

“We’ll go to Airbus on Sunday and we’ll have to miss chapel!”
