IT’S the second half of the Shropshire League season for Chirk - and things are about to get colourful!

Tomorrow’s Division One contest at home to Wroxeter and Uppington will see the teams in coloured kits, while the match also marks the adoption of the pink ball.

“We played one game with the pink ball in the Hundred competition in May and there was nothing there for a bowler,” admitted Chirk skipper Gardner.

“It’s only one game and it could have been a bad choice of ball.”

The start of the second half of the season sparks a new format.

Games in the first half of the summer were win-lose-draw affairs, but the latter aspect is now out of the equation, which means there has to be a winner on the day... unless it’s a tie!

“Games are a lot simpler now, but it means power plays and nine overs per bowler,” added Gardner, who looks likely to welcome Gareth Partridge and Nick Flack back into the side.

Division Seven leaders Chirk seconds are away to Cae Glas seconds tomorrow.

There’s a big weekend in store in the Liverpool Competition.

Northop Hall travel to Caldy, with both sides just off the promotion pace.

Hall skipper Ben Slater said: “It will be a close game. They’re two places above us in the league.

“It’s a double-pointer for both teams.

“It’s tight and I think it will definitely be a result game.”

Matty Jones and Ed Parry will come back in for Hall.

Northop Hall seconds will play host to Caldy seconds.
