RYAN HARRINGTON will also be in cup action tomorrow but not where he thought he might have been playing when he signed off last season with a Welsh Cup final win.

Harrington played his part in Connah’s Quay Nomads’ 2-1 triumph over The New Saints but has since moved north of the border to sign for Cove Rangers.

It’s not the first time 25-year-old Wrexham-born Harrington, who kicked off his career at Everton, has played in Scotland.

He moved to Aberdeen from Goodison Park and also had a loan spell with Montrose.

Now he’s back in Aberdeenshire and made his home debut at The Balmoral Stadium in the Scottish League Cup against Spartans on Tuesday where Cove suffered a 5-0 hammering.

“I was given the opportunity to come in during the time we had off, worked with the gaffer and the team and really enjoyed it, so I quickly agreed to come in,” Harrington told the Cove Rangers’ website.

“I knew a few of the faces from my time up here before when I was with Aberdeen and out on loan, so that definitely made things easier. They’re a great bunch of lads, they’ve really looked after me, so it’s been really easy to feel a part of things. It’s been great, a really good atmosphere, and the transition has been dead easy.”

Primarily a defender, Harrington’s versatility has also seen him feature in midfield. “I do like to get goals, I scored a few last season, and I want to add more of that to my game,” added Harrington. “I will get forward when I can, but it’s also important to keep clean sheets and it’s all about getting the right balance.

“I feel as if I’m learning all the time, I expect to feed off the older guys but also to do my bit to help the younger ones, and that’s the kind of changing room we have here.”

As for his hopes this season, Harrington added: “You set your own personal targets, the manager sets his, and obviously we’ll all be looking at getting promotion again.”

Cove go to Forfar tomorrow while another former Nomads star, Jordan Davies, has started both ties for Morton but has yet to open his account.

Ex-Wrexham striker Jordan White was in form, bagging two in Ross County’s 3-1 win at Stranraer.
