BOTH ends of the ice are well covered for the Deeside Dragons.

The club has announced the return of forward James Shaw (pictured left) for next season, in addition to defenceman Oli Howells.

After a few seasons in Nottingham, Shaw returned to the Dragons last season and he picked up where he left off with nine points in 12 games.

He is the grandson of Dragons great Gary Shaw and Shaw junior is a promising young British player, who has played for England’s U23 squad, in addition to Team GB’s university team.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the Dragons for another season!” Shaw told the club’s website.

“I’m impressed with the team’s direction and I’m excited for the upcoming season.

“I’m eager to get back on the ice and play in front of all the fantastic fans we have at Deeside!”

Howells joined the Dragons last season and immediately made an impact as a fast, puck-moving defenceman. He recorded six assists in 29 games and he is sure to get better as he continues his senior career in Deeside.

He said: “I’m excited to be back at the Den for a second season. Last season was amazing, from the play on the ice to the support in the stands, and it was a no-brainer when Mike (Clancy) got in contact with me to come back.

“I’m looking forward to another season to try and improve on last year’s standing in the league and to personally develop even further with help from the experienced players on the Dragons.”

Dragons have also announced the return of workhorse Jared Dickinson for the forthcoming season.

This will be Dickinson’s third year with the club and he has continued to go from strength to strength with the Dragons.

Last season, he recorded an impressive 14 goals and 18 assists in 25 games for Deeside, finishing sixth on the team in scoring despite spending part of the season on defence. His versatility and determination have made him a key player for the Dragons.
