MARK HOWARD believes Wrexham’s popularity will carry on rising in America if the club continues to enjoy success on the pitch.
The Reds have become global sensations since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney completed their takeover at The Racecourse in February 2021, and the impact of the “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary has earned a new legion of fans across the pond.
Wrexham, preparing for the new League One campaign after clinching back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club’s history, have returned to the States for two friendlies against AFC Bournemouth in Santa Barbara on Saturday and Chelsea in Santa Clara next Wednesday before heading to Canada for the first time to face Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place on July 27.
The Reds prepared for a first season back in the Football League following a 15-year exile by heading to the States 12 months ago to play four matches, including high-profile games against Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United.
Goalkeeper Howard was taken aback by the level of support and he has embraced the club’s new fan-base in America which he expects to keep growing if the success story at The Racecourse continues.
“We have games out in America where we play the likes of Chelsea and Bournemouth,” veteran stopper Howard told Best Online Poker Sites: www.bestonlinepokersites.ltd
“Those are two clubs we would never have come up against, especially in America, in the past.
“Everyone talks about things off the pitch with the owners and the documentary but the success on it will only see the popularity grow.
“We have been on an upward trajectory and that helps with the momentum of the club.
“America was incredible last year, playing against Manchester United and Chelsea.
“Even going to these games, some of the support was 50-50 if not more for us. I remember the Chelsea game in particular and you look around and there were as many red shirts as blue.
“To have that support, which is only growing, across the pond is incredible. That hasn’t been a plateau yet and that only helps with the momentum of the club.”
