THERE’S been a new addition to the Flint Mountain ranks ahead of this weekend’s big kick-off.

Sam Rockall has joined the Cymru North club from Upton JFC in the Cheshire League.

Rockall is a 23-year-old defender and he teams up once again with Jack Sconce, who also made the move from Upton last season.

Mountain boss Aden Shannon told the club’s website: “Sam is another one who has come in from local football but has been excellent over the last three weeks.

“He is a big, strong defender, his attitude has been fantastic and his willingness to learn is also great to see. I am really looking forward to working with Sam who has huge potential.”

Flint Mountain lost out 2-1 to 1874 Northwich in a friendly at the Essity Stadium, Rob Hughes was on target for the hosts.

Cymru North champions Holywell Town played out a 1-1 draw against Cammell Laird.

Recent acquisition Jake Roberts struck for Johnny Haseldin’s side.

Oli Lanceley’s hat-trick helped Airbus to gain a 5-0 triumph at home to Macclesfield U21s.

It was another worthwhile exercise for the Wingmakers ahead of the start to the competitive campaign and team boss Mark Allen told the club’s X site: “I’ve just said in there that we don’t really want to take anything out of pre-season other than getting fitness and getting the patterns that we want to play leading into the season.

“So, it’s important to take it for what it is and make sure that, first game, we hit the ground running and that’s what we want, really.”

Gresford Athletic and Irlam played out a 1-1 draw, Charlie Mann popping up with a late leveller for Gresford.

Buckley Town picked up a hugely promising 1-1 draw against Cymru Premier League Newtown.

Coach Marc Evans told Buckley’s Facebook page: “That was the reaction we wanted from the lads after Tuesday’s game - the intensity, attitude and focus of the players was first class.

“Asa (Hamilton) worked hard with the forwards in training on Thursday and we really saw a marked improvement in their cohesion which was lacking on Tuesday. As a result, we were able to retain possession higher up the pitch and gain more control in the game.

“Obviously Newtown were always going to be a stern test and a draw against them is more than satisfactory, and bodes well for the new season. We thank them for the match and wish them all the best in their upcoming Cymru Prem campaign.

“Thoughts now turn to the new season starting and it kicks off next Saturday in the Nathaniel MG Cup at Prestatyn, followed by eight home games in a row at the Globe to kick off our Cymru North league fixtures.”

Flint Town United won 7-1 away to Porthmadog while Cymru North new boys Llay Welfare have been busy strengthening the squad.

Sammy Lestrange has made the move from Warrington Rylands, while Owen Payne has joined from Litherland Remyca.

Bisensio Kamilo and Morgan Sadler are further new additions along with Mike Jones (Penyffordd), Chris Hibbert (Buckley), Jason Clark (Ruthin Town), Ellis Hickey (Brickfield), JJ King (Saltney Town) and Ruben Lima (Whitchurch Alport).

In further friendly action, Greenfield triumphed 8-2 at Prestatyn Sports, while Brymbo and Henllan drew 1-1.

Denbigh Town picked up a 2-1 triumph over Llanuwchllyn.

Tonight, Mold Alex will play host to Cefn Albion, while Airbus pay a visit to Brickfield Rangers and Rhostyllen welcome Rhyl 1879.
