JORDAN DAVIES was back amongst the goals in Wrexham's opening pre-season friendly but the midfielder feels he should have left Hanley will more than a brace.
Phil Parkinson's side won 5-1 against the Northern Premier League Division One West outfit in front of a record attendance of 1,750 at Potteries Park.
Although a number of players weren't risked because of injury, the Reds' boss was still able to name practically two different teams with only Harry Ashfield, who replaced Elliot Lee in the first period, staying on the pitch when the action resumed after the interval.
Wrexham led 1-0 at the break and the second half team found their shooting boots with Davies, who hails from Coedpoeth, finding the back of the net twice with a couple of superb finishes as the visitors secured a big win.
But having also hit the post and had other shots, the 25-year-old rued not scoring more goals.
"We have been pushing each other in training but it is nice to get back on the pitch and express ourselves," said Davies, who sets off with his team-mates today on the pre-season tour to North America.
"Two sets of 45 minutes for the boys sets us up nicely for America.
"I was delighted to score two goals but I should have had a few more.
"That's what I will look at more, although it was nice to see the ball bit the back of the net.
"I also hit the post and probably could have shifted a few more a bit better to get my shot off but collectively it was quite good."
Although Wrexham finished runners-up in League Two last season to clinch a second promotion in a row for the first time in the club's history, it was a frustrating season for Davies.
He was restricted to just two league starts, with another 23 appearances coming off the substitutes bench,
However, Davies is focussed on the future and he hopes to play his way back into Parkinson 's plans.
"I will just get myself in the best possible shape over in America, work hard and see where it takes me," said Davies.
"At Hanley, it was 45 minutes to almost prove yourself and gain fitness so it was a really good day."
