A lot of thought goes into Reds' recruitment

PHIL PARKINSON says he will go through a "careful selection process" when it comes to putting the finishing touches to his squad.

Parkinson has led Wrexham to back-to-back promotions for the first time in the club's history and is preparing for the new League One campaign which kicks-off at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday August 10.

Three new signings have arrived at The Racecourse this summer with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, centre-back Lewis Brunt and midfielder George Dobson brought in to bolster the ranks, but Parkinson isn't finished there.

He continues to hold talks with potential targets and hasn't ruled out bringing in another fresh face before Wrexham fly-out to North America tomorrow for the three-game pre-season tour but says anyone coming in must not only be a quality addition but also be "right" for the Reds' dressing room.

"We are working on one or two things," said Parkinson.

"There is still work to be done in the squad before the season starts, everybody knows that, but I am very pleased with the lads we have brought in so far.

"They are really strong additions to what we have got and as ever, we are trying to select the players which we feel are right for this group and the club.

"That is a careful selection process because this is quite a unique club to be at for many reasons and I want to make sure that the ones who come in with us are going to integrate quickly with the group but also add something."

Wrexham began the pre-season programme with a comfortable 5-1 win at Hanley Town on Saturday and the Reds will now play two games in America, against Premier League sides AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea, before heading to Canada for the first time where Vancouver Whitecaps will be the opponents.
