TWO Wrexham AAC members celebrated podium places at the Welsh Schools Championships in Cardiff.

Annabelle Jones was second in the U15G javelin with a throw of 27.80m, and that was followed by a sixth place finish in the discus (21.35m).

Lucy Jones, competing in the U17W 300m, was third in a time of 43.45.

There was also a third place for Thomas Walley in the senior men’s pole vault with 4.82m in the Vault Manchester event at Sport City.

Over at the Sheffield Open Meeting, Oliver Edwards ran the senior men’s 100m in 12.10 and also had a personal best in the 200m (23.21) which was bettered by Liam McGivern (22.55) who also clocked 50.20 in the 400m.

Ben Goodfellow finished second in the Cheshire 10k in 33.29 while Ryan Davis took part in the Cheshire 10 mile event and was fourth in 54.15 with Richard Westwood (85th in 1.12.15) also in action.

Three Wrexham athletes were in the top-ten at the Fairy Freckled Cow Trail - the North Wales Trail Championships - at Alwen Reservoir.

Scott Nixon led the contingent home by crossing the finishing line fourth in 41.15, Luke Northall clocked 43.33 for sixth place and Robert Miles was 10th in 45.25.

Mike Robbins (28th in 52.18) and Charles Ashley (57th in 66.34) also competed.

It was also a successful haul for Deestriders at the event with Matt Davies (2nd V50 in 48:56), Angela Deeley 49:02 (3rd lady and 1st V55 in 49:02), Andy Wainwright (3rd V40 in 62:05), Amanda Scotter (2nd V40 in 67:29) and Claire Harper (3rd V45 in 71:54) in the prizes.

There was success for Wrexham’s James Yarwood who won the Deestriders Off Road race at Shotton in a time of 23.57.

Gareth Chaloner (12th in 26.21) and Richard James (52nd in 33.10) also raced while Connor Rogers was second in the Shrewsbury park run with 17.59, Mike Robbins was 11th in the Wepre park run (24.44) and Glyn Wise took sixth place in the Newborough park run (21.09).

Wrexham were also well represented at the Erddig park run with Peter Hughes (17th in 25.47), Rowena Lewis (21st in 25.59), Phil Walker (50th in 30.23), Tomos Marriott (57th in 31.10), John Tipping (104th in 60.40) and Lucy Morris (106th in 60.46) competing.

Amanda Bailey was 24th in a time of 22.38 at the Rothay park run and Charles Ashley clocked 28.24 for 30th place in the Llangollen park run.

Meanwhile, Maria Evanson (first picture) made her Deestriders debut at the Tatton Park Chase the Sun 10k which she completed in an excellent PB of 50:41.

Four Deestriders members - Matt Davies (43:52), Paul Lewtey (52:10), Fred Aird (69:41) and Amanda Scotter (69:42) - did the Druid fell race while Darren Low (50:20) and Corinne Wardle (62:33 PB) competed in the Cheshire 10k.
