NORTH WALES cricketers have become adept at defending targets.

Wales National County (North) made it two wins for the week as they pipped Leeds Beckett University by eight runs in a thrilling encounter at Brymbo.

The hosts batted first and their 50 overs yielded 273 for eight.

Harrison Jones (pictured) top scored with 78, while skipper Will Ryan (43) and Cian Williams (24 not out) also contributed, as S Peter (5-67) impressed with the ball. Leeds Beckett got as close as 265 for three, thanks to W Kelly (89 not out) and R Irving (80).

Earlier in the week, Wales National County (North) got the better of RAF Development by 10 runs.

Nathanael Scott (72) and Luke Russell (71) helped North Wales to set 243 for seven. Thomas Stephan (75) and captain Luke Hansford (58) were the main scorers in the RAF’s 233 for eight (Owen Davies 4-53).

In the North Wales League’s Sunday East Division, Connah’s Quay and Brymbo played out a thrilling tie.

Charlie Croasdale (53) and Gareth Parry (50) helped Brymbo to 163 for seven (Charley Greig 2-9, Rhys Jones 2-28).

Hashmat Safi (47) and Dylan Burke (22) were the top scorers in Quay’s 163 all out (Jack Andrew 4-32, Tom Emmerson 3-40, Jake Hughes 2-18).

Wayne Totty (94 not out), Stanley Gomes (4-10) and Sion Ferguson (3-30) impressed as Northop defeated Buckley (M Edge 4-30) by 107 runs and there was a narrow two-wicket success for Northop Hall versus Hawarden Park.

Tom Hellen (4-9) and Jackson Carlton-Ash (3-9) starred for Hall, while Jamie Leek and Owen Ford bagged two wickets apiece for Park.
