PLAYERS from Brymbo and Gresford will form part of a North Wales line-up that is looking to take flight this week.

Wales National County (North) will take on the RAF at Shifnal Cricket Club today (11am).

Included in the 12-man squad is Gresford skipper Matt Thompson (pictured) and he is joined by Brymbo’s Joe Norman.

St Asaph supply a third of the squad, in the shape of Nathanael Scott, Matt Ryan, Will Norman and skipper Will Ryan.

They are joined in the line-up by the Denbigh pairing of Harrison Jones and Joe Lewis, plus Colwyn Bay duo Luke Russell and Jack Parry.

Jack Rimmington (Llandudno) and Owen Davies (Mochdre) complete the squad.

Romano Franco played his part on his debut as Wales National County comfortably defeated Hertfordshire by 76 runs.

Chasing Wales’ 282 for nine, Hertfordshire were bowled out for 206 in the 44th over at Hitchin.

Northop’s Franco took 2-48 from his 10 overs, including a stunning caught-and-bowled dismissal of James Latham.

Callum Taylor (58) was the leading scorer during the chase, while Brad Wadlan (3-33) and Ben Morris (3-34) were also impressive with the ball.

Earlier, Franco faced four deliveries as Wales National County concluded their 50-over trophy campaign. His eight not out included a six as Wales set 282 for nine after winning the toss.

Henry Hurle (73) and Steffan Roberts (63) compiled a third-wicket stand of 130 and a captain’s knock from Cameron Herring, with 40 from 30 balls, helped the cause.
