THE busy summer has continued for Chester.

The Blues have confirmed their fifth signing ahead of the National League North campaign with Mitch Hancox joining following his departure from Altrincham.

He joins Dan Turner, Ben Pollock, Jack Bainbridge and Cam Mason in making the move to the Deva Stadium. Midfielder Hancox, who has penned a one-year-deal, started his career in the Championship with Birmingham City.

Boss Calum McIntyre told the club’s website: “I’m really pleased to have added a player of Mitch’s experience to the group. He was one of our targets when he left Altrincham and I am really pleased we have got this done.

“He has won three promotions in his career and this experience is exactly what we wanted to add. He has a terrific engine and will add real legs and athletic qualities to our group. He is a left footer which ensures balance in the middle of the pitch for us.

“This completes our midfield for the season ahead. We feel like the midfielders we have added to the group in the summer will make us a more balanced unit. We set out to add athleticism and experience across the pitch and I think this is another signing that reflects that.

“We know there is more to do in full-back areas and there is always an appetite for adding forward players to the group.

“We just need to be clear that we don’t want to sign players for the sake of signing players and we have to work within our budget. These are the realities and we are continuing to work hard to add to the group in the coming days and weeks.”
