A SUPER six from Luke Gardner just failed to inspire Chirk to a Shropshire League away day triumph.

Skipper Gardner secured a stunning six for 34 return from his 14 overs, but Division One hosts Forton clung on at 162 for nine to make sure the contest finished as a draw.

Liam Walker (2-39) was also in good form with the ball for Chirk, who had earlier struck 224 for eight.

Oliver Gough (75), Andrew Swarbrick (41) and Nick Flack (34) were the chief scorers.

Chirk Seconds returned to winning ways in Division Seven with their four-wicket verdict versus Corvedale.

Northop Hall stunned Division Two leaders Hightown St Marys with a thrilling three-run win in their Liverpool Competition showdown.

Matthew Jones (65) and Andrew Watkin (30) helped Hall to 172 all out (Jackson Darkes-Sutcliffe 6-43) and the home response just finished up short on 169.

Matt Laybourne (53) was the leading scorer, while James Hurlin picked up five for 36.

Making it a club double, Northop Hall Seconds defeated Hightown St Marys Seconds by eight wickets.

Sion Hellen (6-66), Gareth Fox (80 not out) and Tom Hellen (62) impressed for Hall.
