ROMANO FRANCO is all set to make history this weekend..

Northop teenager Franco will become the youngest North Walian to turn out for Wales National County on Sunday.

Franco will make his National Counties debut for Wales as they conclude their 50 over trophy campaign away at Hertfordshire.

The 17-year-old left arm spinner has undergone a rapid rise in the last 12 months where, as recently as last season, he was keeping wicket regularly at club level.

Now, the Northop youngster has a place on the Glamorgan Academy and has made his Glamorgan Second XI debut.

Current Derbyshire captain David Lloyd was 18 when he made his Wales debut back in 2010 and other North Walians to turn out for Wales at the same age were Dewi Penrhyn Jones, Will Owen and Josh Andrady.

Franco also becomes the sixth North Walian to represent the senior national side in the last three years following in the footsteps of the likes of Jason Foulkes, Will Ryan and Harrison Jones.

His inclusion comes at the expense of new wrist spinning recruit Alex Russell, who is expected to be in the matchday squad and potentially feature for Northamptonshire who visit Sophia Gardens and Glamorgan in the County Championship on Sunday.

Wales and visitors Cheshire were left disappointed last weekend at Panteg as a heavy overnight deluge of rain curtailed any prospects of play despite the favourable conditions on the day.

Having already sustained losses to Wiltshire and Dorset, the washout confirmed Wales’ exit from the competition at the group stage with a game to spare.

Sunday represents a chance to put some building blocks in place for the 2025 one day trophy as well as kick-start some momentum into the business part of the season with the three day championship and a showcase fixture against Worcestershire to come.

Play from Hitchin starts at 11am on Sunday.
