TALENTED Wrexham athletes have become national champions.

Cardiff played host to the Welsh U15 and senior championships, with a clutch of Wrexham AAC members taking part.

In the U15 girls’ section, Charlee Williams produced an effort of 40.01 to win the hammer, while the discus event was won by Annabelle Jones with 28.58m.

She also finished runner-up in the javelin event (23.98m), while Isabella Bennett competed in the shot put (7.59m) and discus (16.68m).

Lucy Jones was 10th in the senior women’s triple jump (10.34m), while Thomas Walley cleared 5.01m to claim second place in the senior men’s pole vault.

Evan Williams (11.43) competed in the 100m heats, with Oliver Edwards racing in the heats for the 400m (52.75) and 200m (23.50).

Liam McGivern clocked 49.75 in his 400m heat and he improved on this with 49.66 in the semi-finals.

It was a busy day for Glyn Wise at the northern senior league meet in Leigh.

He was part of the team that finished third in the 4x100m relay, while he was fourth in the 4x400m relay, long jump and 400m hurdles. Wise also competed in the triple jump and 400m, while other Wrexham AAC athletes in action in the senior men’s section were Daniel Williams, Nik Mesney, Neil Davies, Neil Edwards, Jamie Lewis and Gareth Chaloner.

Amanda Cook, Hannah Williams, Izzie Collins and Jen Hampton competed in the senior women’s section.

Connor Rogers (32.38) crossed the line in second place in the Barmouth 10k.

Other Wrexham AAC racers in action were Richard James (146th in 49.08), Mark Hughes (238th in 53.21), Simon Williams (268th in 54.36) and Alex Edwards (528th in 66.18).

Daniel Weston (20th in 33.51) and Beth Hewitt (314th in 48.02) were the Wrexham athletes at the Colshaw 10k in Knutsford.

Deestriders Mike Salusbury (47.21), Steph Salusbury (49.17) and Justin Evans (54.38) achieved personal bests and they were joined at the race by Paul Lewtey (45.07).

Wrexham’s Ally Hughes (39.20) claimed fourth spot in the Hotfoot Up Famau fell race.

Seven Deestriders took part in the brutal three-and-a-half mile race, spear-headed by Paul Lewtey (58.59) and Jenny Lewtey-Jones (82.32).

They were followed by Claire Harper (87.44), Alannah O’Brien (87.51), Fiona Robinson (90.58), Christine Cammillare (90.59) and Amanda Scotter (91.59).

Wrexham’s Matt Williams (45.55) and Simon Williams (53.34) competed in the Great Manchester 10k and Amanda Bailey (74th in 2-03.04) was first W50 at the Coed Y Brenin trail half-marathon.

Dave Gallagher crossed the line 254th in 3-27.48.

Two Deestriders took on major challenges.

Alan Latham completed the Rat Race 70-mile wall event in 13-04.40, while Mike Norris finished the Alderford standard distance triathlon in 3-23

Clubmate Linda Turley was first lady at the Greenfield Valley parkrun in 24.47.
