A STRONG Wrexham AAC contingent competed at the Welsh inter-region track and field championships in Deeside.

Neil Edwards won the senior men’s 110m hurdles (34.67) and javelin (36.31), with clubmate Jamie Lewis (26.35m) third, while Jen Hampton triumphed in the senior women’s javelin thanks to her effort of 26.14m.

The North Wales men’s and women’s teams both finished first overall.

In the U15 girls’ class, Annabelle Jones was second in the javelin (24.60m) and fourth in the shot put (7.78m), while Sophie Forgrave (21.18m) was sixth in the hammer. Runner-up U17 women’s spots went the way of Lucy Jones in the 300m (42.14) and 4x300m relay (3-00.25), the former a personal best.

At the Cheshire track and field league fixture in Macclesfield, Olivia Dixon produced a personal best of 2.29m in the U11 girls’ long jump and she was fourth in the 75m (15.4), while Ellis Jones produced U11 boys’ personal bests in the 600m (2-13.2) and long jump (2.97m) and Rory Dixon (2-24.5) was ninth in the 600m.

Turning to the U13 girls’ class and a personal best of 31.5 saw Bethan Roberts third in the 200m, while she was fourth in the 800m (2-46.3) and shot put (5.59m), with Spencer Jones supplying a personal best to win the U13 boys’ 1500m (5-08.8) and he was second in the shot (7.13m).

Tomasi Fidow (9.13m) won that shot put event with his own personal best and Annabelle Jones produced an effort of 25.99m to win the U15 girls’ javelin, ahead of clubmate Isabella Bennett, whose 23.49m was a personal best.

Continuing the PB theme, Lasitha Ekanayake’s time of 25.9 was enough for third spot in the U17 men’s 200m.

In the senior men’s class, Neil Edwards won the hammer (28.65m) and was second in the high jump (1.35m).

Wrexham AAC victories at the Menai AC open meeting went the way of Tomasi Fidow (U13 boys’ shot) and Annabelle Jones (U15 girls’ shot), with podium spots going to Ellis Jones and Rory Dixon (U11 boys), Spencer Jones (U13 boys) and Isabella Bennett (U15 girls).

Over at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Oregon, Amber Simpson (67.73m) was eighth in the senior women’s hammer, while Thomas Walley - representing Sale Harriers - took third place in the pole vault with 5.00m at the National League (Premier) meet in Eton.

Talented all-rounder Amanda Broadhurst won the W50 heptathlon at the North West combined events competition in Deeside and personal bests were achieved by Evan Williams at Run With The Wind, in Cardiff.

He was second in the U23 men’s 200m (22.96m) and third in the 100m (10.98).

Amanda Cook triumphed in the W45 triple jump (9.11m) and discus (21.50m) at the Midlands masters league meet in Sutton Coldfield and it’s also been a great spell for Thomas Williams.

He won the U17 men’s hammer at the Loughborough throws meeting with 72.82m and he achieved a personal best of 76.12m at the Catalonia championships.

Connor Rogers (15.45) was third at the Llanrug 5k, which was also the North Wales championships, with Mark Hughes 143rd in 25.14, while James Yarwood (23.42) was second in the Deestriders off road event at Shotton.

Gareth Chaloner (12th in 26.29), Gwyn Roberts (31st in 29.23) and Richard James (56th in 33.24) also took part.

At the Rossendale junior fell races, Evie Hughes (66th in 27.15) and Grace Hughes (69th in 27.31) represented North Wales in the U15 girls’ race. George Hughes (13.44) was seventh in the U11 boys’ competition.
