AFTER dealing in close thrillers over recent weeks, Connah’s Quay Cobras decided it was time to enjoy a goal-den spell!

Following their narrow loss to Flintshire Phantoms last time out, Connah’s Quay Cobras moved back to the top of the Summer Classic Cup elite group table after a comprehensive 22-1 win versus Trafford Thunder, in Altrincham.

Cobras scored the opening goal after just 40 seconds and it was pretty much one-way traffic after that.

The score was 4-0 at the first period break and 5-0 by the time that Trafford scored their only goal of the game on 25 minutes.

Three Cobras goals within 44 seconds on the 32-minute mark put the game well out of the reach of the Thunder and four more goals late in the period saw Connah’s Quay leading 12-1 at the second interval.

A completely one-sided third period saw 11 more goals for the Cobras – including a penalty shot converted by Martin Rybka on 53 minutes - and the marauding Deesiders cruised to a relatively easy victory.

Former Dragons player Chris Keating (pictured) led the Connah’s Quay scoring with seven goals and four assists and he was duly named as the MVP for the Cobras.

Rybka weighed in with four goals and five assists, while there were also five assists from former Slough Jet Stewart Cutting, who scored twice. Martin Stolicny claimed a hat-trick, while the rest of the goals and assists were shared around and 13 different players got their names on the scoresheet.

Cobras visit Newcastle Predators on Saturday.
