SCOTT BUTLER has rejoined Marine following his release by Wrexham.

The centre-back enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Mariners this season, helping Neil Young’s side clinch promotion to National League North after joining in January.

The 21-year-old made 19 appearances and will return for the 2024-25 campaign after Reds' boss Phil Parkinson announced that the defender wasn't being offered a new contract.

After starting his youth career at Wrexham, Butler, who hails from Ruabon, had a spell with Swansea City before returning to The Racecourse during the 2022/23 season.

He made his senior Reds' debut in an FA Trophy tie at Altrincham in January 2023, and also represented Wrexham Red Dragons at TST last summer.

Butler, who can play at full-back and centre-back, began this season on loan at Nantwich Town before moving to Marine in January.

On signing for Marine, Butler told Marine's official website said: “I’m happy to be back. After a great end to last season, coming back to Marine was already in my mind as I really enjoyed my football second half of the season.

“The fans should be full of optimism going into the new season that we can have a positive season.”

Young added: “Scott is an exciting signing for us and in his time with us so far he has been excellent.

“Scott has made it clear he has loved his time and development at Marine. He fully understands how important it is to be appreciated, valued and in an environment where he can continue to thrive to ultimately reach his goal of getting back to full-time league football.”
