FLINT MOUNTAIN’S mission to finish a fabulous season off with a trophy treble was blown away by Holyhead Hotspur.

After winning the Ardal North West League and beating Mold Alex in the North East Wales FA Cup final, Flint were big favourites to triumph in the Ardal North Cup at Bala Town.

But Holyhead made their trip from Anglesey a worthwhile one as Dylan Summers-Jones hit a stoppage-time winner in a dramatic 2-1 victory at Maes Tegid.

Holyhead, who had finished fourth in the league and 12 points behind Flint, deservedly took the lead in first half stoppage time with a cracker from Tomos Owen.

Holyhead keeper Guto Hughes was proving to be the man of the match as he kept the Mountain men out.

But former Chester striker Lloyd Ellams kept his nerve from the spot to slot home an 85th minute penalty for Aden Shannon’s side.

And with both bosses planning for what looked like an inevitable shoot-out, Summers-Jones had other ideas and grabbed the winner in the last minute.

The Anglesey outfit celebrated in style at the final whistle and delighted boss Darren Garmey told Cymru Sport: “It was unbelievable way to finish a final.

“They had chances, even before the penalty, and it looked like going to penalties but Dylan had other ideas.

“Since January we’ve been on a great run and we wanted to finish off with silverware.

“The lads really deserve this and to win against a really good side and good manager in Aden - a good friend of mine and we’ve got so much respect for each other.”

As for Flint, boss Shannon is now planning for next season for what he hopes will be a top six finish in the highly competitive Cymru North.

“We’re ambitious and we know we can compete in what is a cracking league,” said Shannon.

“We beat Buckley Town, Holywell Town and Mold Alex in cup games last season so if we can produce those kind of performances consistently, we’ve got to believe we can challenge for a top six spot.”

In the FAW Reserves North League, Eric Durnell grabbed the winner nine minutes into stoppage time as Mold Alex edged out Holywell Town 3-2.

Joshua Watkin and George Yarwood also scored with Jack Baines-Hughes and Harrison Doleman replying.

There was a real FAW Reserve League North Tier 3 thriller as Llay Welfare and Brickfield Rangers played out a 3-3 draw.

It was two apiece at the interval, with Callum Jones and Jack Honey twice having Brickfield in front, only for these to be cancelled out by Chris Owens and Euan Edwards.

Paige Wilding handed Rangers the lead for a third time, but Keanu Bruton’s late strike salvaged a point for Llay.

Two other matches were scheduled, but Flint Mountain’s trip to Pwllheli was postponed, as was Llangollen Town’s visit to St Asaph City.
