CONNAH’S QUAY are all set to become away day experts in their quest for promotion from Division One. Quay, just five points off the top-two, face a trip to Abergele tomorrow.
“They way we look at it, we have got a lot of away games in the first half of the season,” said Quay skipper Darren Leach (pictured).
“We’re away this week, then home and then three away games on the bounce.
“Even when it’s dry, Abergele is not the easiest track to bat on. If you can get anything like 125-to-150, you will be in the game. They have got some really good players. We won’t take that lightly and it’s one game at a time.”
A tally approaching 150 would have been a real luxury last time out for Quay, who successfully defended 84 at Mold.
“We thought if we got 75, 100 we were in the game,” said Leach, who will have Rhys Stout and the returning Gavin Parry available tomorrow. “The wickets are doing all sorts. We knew with 75, we had the bowling, with four seamers and Brody Camp as a leg spinner, left to defend that score.”
Mold will look to bounce back as they make the trip to Conwy tomorrow, while leaders Northop seconds got to Hawarden Park.
Brymbo seconds. Buckley and Halkyn are at home to Bethesda, Pontblyddyn and Dolgellau respectively.
Buckley skipper Lee Taylor said: “We welcome back Rocco Franco, Adam Shaw, Joel Sampson and Matty Blunden, so we are very hopeful of getting our season up and running this weekend.
“We also welcome back opening bowler Louis Parry, so it’s very much a changed team this week.”
Mold skipper Isaac Allen, who will see Lew Pringle, Rich Crane and Jon Crane back, said: “We’re looking forward to playing Conwy as we haven’t played them in a few years.
“It was always a tough game against them, but played in good spirits.”
