NOT one but two titles were on the bus back for Flintshire Schoolboys.

The U14s beat Ceredigion 6-0 in the Welsh national finals while the U15s held their nerve to win a penalty shoot-out against Rhondda Cynon Taff.

U14s manager James Duff, who saw Ruben Pope and Lucas Roberts bag doubles in the final, said: “It was another excellent season.

“After falling just short last season losing out in the final in a penalty shootout they deservedly lifted this year’s national schoolboys title.

“Going undefeated all season has been impressive but on top of that their improvements on and off the pitch has been a joy to see.

“They’ve represented the respective schools and Flintshire in a manner we can all be proud of.

“Myself and Stephen are extremely proud to have been part of their journey so far and look forward to their continued success.”

Zac Jones and Ewan Kelly were the U14s side’s other scorers while Lewys Williams netted as the U15s drew 1-1 before coming out on top after penalties.

U15s manager Dave McLoughlin said: “What a season from this season’s year 10s!

“Going unbeaten throughout against some really tough opposition. Our first season with this group of players and Nick and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

“The lads have been a pleasure to coach and we are already looking forward to next season. They should be enormously proud of what they have achieved becoming U15s national schoolboy champions.”

Flintshire chairman Neill Hughes was equally delighted, adding: “It was a great day for the county.

“To win three out of five northern titles and then two out of the three going on to win the national titles is a great achievement.

“A lot of hard work goes into making schoolboy football a success in the area and I would like to give special thanks to Della Bennett, Tracey Jones, Rob Chesters, Cledwyn Ashford and Ysgol Treffynnon.

“All play a massive part in the running of the association off the field. The standards both on and off the field improve year on year.

“Here’s hoping to another successful season next term.”

There was agony for Wrexham Schoolgirls U13s’ side, who fell to a last-minute winner in their final against Swansea.

The odds stacked against them from the start.

Although unbeaten all season, prolific scorer Tallulah Parker-Wynn (Maelor School), who had scored at least once in every game played, was unavailable owing to a broken wrist and the regular goalkeeper was ruled out.

Replacement keeper Summer Rutter (Ysgol Grango) put in brilliant display against Swansea.

Wrexham captain Ellie Walton (Maelor) and Freya Tansley (Darland) played their part in keeping the south Wales side at bay until they broke the deadlock in added time.

WCSFA organiser Terry Walker said: “All credit to manager Craig Salisbury and coaches, Alex James and Mark Porter for preparing and training the squad to compete at the national level.

“They have been well supported by Rebecca Suckley and all the parents, guardians and their families. All are determined that the squad will go that one step further next season.”
