MOLD ALEX have appointed a new first team manager.

After Mike Cunningham and Steve Monk stepped down following the conclusion of a hugely successful season, Barry Owen has now taken over at the helm at Alyn Park.

In a statement, the club said: "Mold Alexandra are delighted to announce the appointment of Barry Owen as the new first team manager following Mike and Steve's decision to stand down at the end of the current season."

New boss Owen added: "I'm delighted to have been appointed as Mold Alex first team manager.

"After speaking with the club, it was clear that our ambitions align, and there is a clear plan in place.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge of the Cymru North in what should be an extremely competitive league yet again."

Owen makes the move from Ardal North West League St Asaph and he has started in the post immediately.

"Next season the league will be stronger than ever but we believe that Barry, his management team and the players will meet that challenge and deliver another season of exciting and successful football for our growing fan base to enjoy," added the club statement.

In a memorable campaign, Cunningham and Monk led Mold to success in the all-Wales Cymru Cup, the Cymru North Cup and a top-four finish in the league.

Mold marked a terrific season with the club's end of season awards.

There was double joy for Josh Watkin, who was named as the players' player of the season and the young player of the campaign.

The manager's player of the season accolade went the way of Alex Smith, while the committee's top player pick was Alex Swindell.

Danny Warren claimed the top goalscorer prize, Rhys Nash was named as the supporters' player of the season and the goal of the season nod went the way of Jake Roberts.
