CYMRU NORTH’S quest to secure European football next season has come to an end.
The northern lights were aiming to cause a major stir by battling back to defeat Cymru South in the UEFA Regions’ Cup, however Nathan Leonard’s side ended up losing 6-1 on aggregate following a 4-1 second leg defeat.
The South Wales side were in control on the back of a 2-0 first leg triumph at Denbigh’s Central Park and they were able to put the tie to bed in the first half of the second leg at Ynys Park, in Trefelin.
Liam Eason and Jack Lloyd struck to make it 2-0 to the hosts on the day and 4-0 on aggregate.
Two more goals followed for the south team in the second half, while Cymru North hit back with a consolation from Gresford’s Haci Ozlu.
North East Wales was well represented in the squad, with Mold Alex quartet Alex Swindell, Matty Lewis, Henry Nash and Danny Warren included.
They were joined by two of Holywell Town’s Cymru North-winning squad - Danny Sullivan and Morgan Murray - along with Chirk AAA’s Josh Evans.
Cymru South will go forward to represent Wales in the intermediate round of the 2024/25 UEFA Regions’ Cup.
Wales have been drawn with regional amateur teams from Serbia, Slovakia and North Macedonia.
