CUP specialists Mynydd Isa and Penyffordd Lions are going for more glory tomorrow.

The two North East Wales League sides clash in the Horace Wynne Cup final at Ruthin (4.30pm kick-off).

Both clubs have already lifted silverware this season with Penyffordd fresh from celebrating a 2-1 Premier Cup success against Connah’s Quay Town a week ago.

“This is our cup final weekend with finals three and four for the senior section of the club,” said James Hollyoak, head of adult football at Isa, whose old boys take on Hawarden Rangers in Sunday’s NEWFA Veterans Cup final.

“It’s been a fantastic season with two cup final victories for our firsts and reserves sides but we now have two extremely tough fixtures this weekend.

“Penyffordd won their first trophy of the season last weekend and we have faced them a few times this season and every game has been extremely tough,

“They have a lot of experience and quality throughout their squad and we know we have to be at our very best to stand a chance of beating them.

“On Sunday, our Vets play Hawarden which we know is going to be another very tough game as Hawarden have already won the league and a cup this season.

“We go into both games full of confidence with both squads looking strong and with our 12th man the Mynydd Isa faithful, who we know will be in full voice, getting behind the lads once again we can bring home the trophies and make it four out of four for the club.”

Penyffordd boss Stuart Tunnicliffe hopes he can patch up his squad after last week’s hard-fought final where Liam Hughes and Ben Hughes got the goals.

“We have to go into the match confident after winning the Premier Cup,” said Tunnicliffe, whose side are still in with a chance of winning the league’s Premier Division title as they face leaders Corwen twice before the season closes.

“It was a great occasion so we would all like to follow it up with another win.

“We picked up a few knocks during the game and extra time took its toll, but we have midweek to rest and recover and also more players back to consider.

“Mynydd Isa have been strong in the latter stages of the season, but we still have to put ourselves as favourites and believe we can achieve a double.”

The New Saints are through to the FAW Reserves North Cup final after a penalty-shoot-out win over Chirk AAA.

Phil Pearce, Brad Pearce, Toby Nash and own goal helped Chirk push Saints all the way but the Park Hall side won the shoot-out 5-4 and will now face the winners of next week’s last-four clash between Nantlle Vale and Llandudno in the final.

On target for the Saints were Greg Draper, Joel Gardner, Josh Davies-Sewell and Cian McIntosh.
