FLINT MOUNTAIN could have so much to celebrate this weekend.

Aden Shannon’s side could secure two trophies in the space of 20 hours as well as picking up a third if their second string lift the NEWFA Reserves Cup against Ruthin Town tomorrow.

First up, Flint face cup-kings Mold Alex in tonight’s NEWFA Cup final at Ruthin’s Memorial Fields.

Then tomorrow, it’s a trip to Y Felinheli where a win will see then crowned Ardal North West League champions.

“We wanted to play the two games and I’ve always had two XIs planned for both games as I’m lucky to have such a good squad of players,” said Shannon.

“We weren’t sure whether we’d be allowed to play both games but we’ve been given clearance and we’ll be taking both games very seriously.”

Mountain, who have ex-Welsh Premier League players Mike Hayes, John Danby and Rob Hughes in their squad, knocked out Cymru North champions Holywell Town in the semi-finals and also beat Buckley Town en route to the final.

But a win in tomorrow’s league clash at Y Felinheli will be the main priority for Mountain, whose manager’s son, Harry, will be in goal for Flint in the Reserves Cup final.

“It’s great for the club to be in two finals this weekend and we’ve got a League Cup semi-final coming up soon too,” added Shannon (pictured below).

Mold will be favourites to lift the cup as manager Mike Cunningham looks to sign off in style.

“They’re obviously chasing the league as well at tier three and they’re a tier two side in making and probably comfortably finish top end of it in tier two,” said Cunningham, whose side have lifted the Cymru North and National Cups this season.

“So, it’s going to be difficult. It’s a cup final, we know that. We’ve got to try and use our experience and it’s nice, in a way, to know an end date. I can prepare myself a little bit better for that, but the show goes on.”

A Mold Alex quartet will be hoping it’s a memorable weekend on two fronts.

Alex Swindell, Matty Lewis, Henry Nash and Danny Warren are in the Cymru North squad that will be looking to overturn a two-goal deficit when they tackle Cymru South on Sunday in the second leg of the UEFA Regions’ Cup play-off.

The southern side triumphed 2-0 at Denbigh in the opening contest, with the return leg being played at Ynys Park, in Trefelin.
