CYMRU NORTH champions Holywell Town have been refused a tier two licence for next season.
Johnny Haseldin’s Wellmen just got the better of Flintshire rivals Flint Town United and Airbus in an epic Cymru North title chase, while the latest news follows on from the club’s failure to secure a Football Association of Wales domestic licence.
However, the club is confident it will gain the licence on appeal.
A club statement said: “Today, the FAW announced that our 1st application for a Tier 2 licence has been refused. This is down to an anomaly with a DBS (disclosure and barring service), in which we have started the process of rectification.
“We have engaged the FAW this afternoon and are ahead of the appeal timeline.”
Llay Welfare, seeking promotion from the Ardal North West League, have also been refused a tier two licence.
In a post on X - formerly Twitter - the club said: “Although we are disappointed with the news of our Tier 2 application being rejected by the @FAWales, we as a club will be appealing this decision & a further statement will be announced in due course.”
