PHIL PARKINSON paid tribute to Stockport County after being crowned League Two champions but he says Wrexham have got the "kudos" of clinching back-to-back promotions.

The rivals go head-to-head at The Racecourse on Saturday knowing they will both be playing in League One next season regardless of the result on the final day.

Stockport have enjoyed a fantastic run-in and arrive in north Wales on the back of eight successive wins to guarantee top spot.

But Wrexham have also finished strongly and secured a top-three finish with two games to spare, making it two promotions in a row on the back of clinching the National League title following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign.

Parkinson says both clubs deserve praise for what they have achieved.

"Credit to Stockport getting promoted and winning the title," said Parkinson.

"They've got the credit for that, we have got the kudos of getting back-to-back promotions which is great from our point of view.

"It will be a great day at the weekend, two rivals who have gone toe-to-toe over the last few years.

"It is going to be a celebration on the last day of two teams getting promoted."

The three automatic promotion spots have all been decided heading into the final round of fixtures with Mansfield joining Wrexham and Stockport in going straight up to League One.

Mansfield are currently second on goal difference from Wrexham and will finish runners-up if they win at sixth placed Barrow on Saturday.

If the Stags drop points, the Reds will take second spot with victory over Stockport.
