IT'S been a week to remember for Arthur Okonkwo who has enjoyed individual recognition as well as success with Wrexham.

The goalkeeper, brought in on a season-long loan from Premier League giants Arsenal following Ben Foster's retirement in August, has helped the Reds clinch automatic promotion from League Two.

Okonkwo has been in fantastic form and kept his 15th clean sheet in all competitions on Saturday as Phil Parkinson's men thrashed Forest Green Rovers 6-0 at The Racecourse to secure a top-three finish with two games to go.

Just 24 hours later and Okonkwo was named in the League Two Team of the Season alongside Wrexham team-mate Elliot Lee.

On his selection, Okonkwo said: "It is a great feeling.

"It's been a tough season with highs and lows but I am very happy to be selected in the Team of the Season.

"It is a great achievement for me and hopefully one of many."

But helping Wrexham secure a second promotion in a row comes before personal accolades and Okonkwo, who has made 34 league appearances, couldn't be happier after going up to the third tier.

"When you get to the end of the season and you have that achievement of winning something like we have done with promotion, it is a great feeling," said Okonkwo.

"It was great celebrating with the boys and a moment I will never forget.

"It has been an incredible season and I am so proud of the team, the staff and everyone around the club for having the trust in me, and allow me to show what I can do.

"We will see what happens in the future."

Okonkwo missed three games after suffering a broken jaw in the 2-2 draw at Harrogate Town on November 28 but he returned as quick as possible.

"I couldn't wait to get back," said Okonkwo, who wore a protective mark when he made his comeback in the 2-0 win against Newport County on December 23.

"I remember the gaffer speaking to me the day before Newport at home. I'd missed a couple of games, I remember watching them at home and thinking 'I need to get back quick'.

"I was really happy that I was able to get back in the team as soon as I did."

Okonkwo has caught the eye during his time at The Racecourse but insists he is far from the finished article.

"Overall I am happy," said the 22-year-old, who began last season on loan at League Two rivals Crewe Alexandra before ending the campaign with Sturm Graz where he won the Austrian Cup.

"I still have things I can improve on and get better. But I am still young and have still got a lot to learn."

Wrexham head to Crewe on Saturday before playing host to Stockport County, who have also booked their place in League One, on the final day of the season.

Promotion has already been secured but Okonkwo says there will be no let-up.

"We still want to do well in our next two games. The focus is on that now," he added.

"I am sure the boys will get their heads screwed back on and be ready to focus again for the last two games."
