ANDY MORRELL is backing Wrexham to handle the pressure going down the final straight in the quest for a second successive promotion.
Phil Parkinson's men came out on top in a thrilling title race with Notts County in 2022-23 and were crowned champion following a record-breaking campaign.
Tipped for more success this season, the Reds have lived up to expectations and are challenging for promotion in League Two but there is no shortage of competition for a top-three finish with the likes of Mansfield Town, Stockport County and MK Dons in contention.
With nine games to go, Morrell believes Wrexham can finish the job off during the run-in.
"Expectations are high but I think the team is good enough to handle it," said former Reds striker and manager Morrell.
"They handled it really well last year and were relentless in the way they went about their business home and away.
"I have been very impressed with League Two, especially the top end of the table; I think if you give up chances the other team will score whereas in the National League, you could get away with one or two.
"But I think Wrexham will handle the pressure exactly the way they did last year.
"There are going to be ups and downs for all teams, and it can change so quickly.
"But Phil will just worry about his own team's form and concentrate on themselves."
Wrexham remained in the mix despite a mixed bag of results during a frantic February and Morrell feels the players will be ready for one final push, with the Reds setting their sights on going straight up to League One rather than settling for the lottery of the play-offs.
"They have given themselves a right chance," he added.
"It was difficult in February with so many away games but they should still be positive in their attitude towards the remaining games, and going for a big push.
"It is tight at the top but I think with the way the season has gone, you would want to be taking one of the top-three spot.
"If you are mid-table, you are thinking the play-offs are a possibility but with Wrexham up there, you are aiming for top-three."
