LEE TRUNDLE has given Wrexham fans the perfect pick-me-up in saying he thinks his old team are destined for the Premier League.
Wrexham went out of the FA Cup at Blackburn Rovers last night and can now concentrate on gaining promotion to League One.
Trundle, who made his name with Wrexham where he was a fans’ favourite between 2001 and 2003, thinks the Reds, who are bankrolled by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, should be aiming a lot higher.
Trundle has been impressed with the club’s form since finally gaining promotion back to the Football League.
“Everything about Wrexham indicates that they’re setting up to play Premier League football - the owners have said it themselves,” said Trundle, speaking to BoyleSports, who provide the latest EFL betting.
“I’ve seen it with Swansea and I was a part of that journey who not only got to the Premier League but also won the League Cup and attained Europa League football!
“If you had said that 15 years ago, nobody would have believed you and you would have been silly to even say it! That’s the beauty of football.”
Trundle, who was back in town earlier this season to watch the FA Cup win over Yeovil Town, also played for his former side in a seven-a-side tournament in America in the summer.
“Wrexham have a strong backing and they know how to grow their brand,” added Trundle, who scored 34 goals in 111 appearances for the Reds before joining Swansea on a free transfer.
“They’ve had Paul Rudd, Will Ferrell, and other actors in attendance, and they’re showing the club off as a potential investment.
“I think that’s where they’ll move as they continue to climb. There’s no reason why they can’t go into the Premier League.”
