A PREMIER League champion with Blackburn Rovers is anticipating an Ewood Park classic tonight.
Chris Sutton, who formed a deadly partnership with Alan Shearer when Rovers won the title in 1995, thinks the tie with League Two Wrexham will be a seven-goal thriller... with Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Championship side just coming out on top.
In his column for BBC Sport, Sutton said: “Another of my old teams are in action here and, although Blackburn are not having a great time of it in the Championship, I am a big fan of Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson, who has done well with what he has had to work with.
“Rovers’ ambition at the start of the season was to stay up, not go for promotion - which shows how far the club has fallen - but I like the brand of football they play.”
Sutton is tipping Blackburn to win 4-3 and he added: “The thing what gives Wrexham hope is that Blackburn have a soft centre and concede too many goals.
“Wrexham will carry a threat too, with Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher up front.
“At 36, Fletcher is nearly as old as me and I remember playing against him when he was a youngster at Hibs.
“He has gone on to have a really good career and is a wily old striker.
“It is safe to say there will be a few goals in this one, and it should be an FA Cup tie to remember.”
Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has paid respect to Wrexham’s fans for their away following.
“All the credit to Wrexham’s fans,” said Tomasson. “Bringing 7,000 on a Monday night in January after December being a tough month for a lot of families. All the credit to them.
“We have been able to win games in the cup against Premier League sides and lower-league sides. We have a clear way of playing football and that helps. I am looking forward to the game.
“They are playing with a lot of the same players in the last games. It’s a team doing well in the last few years. They’re high in their table, they can be very direct, good at putting balls into the box.”
