SHAUN HARVEY says Wrexham can't afford to stand still and will always seek to strengthen the squad every single transfer window in the quest to continue climbing the divisions.

Backed by Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, manager Phil Parkinson led the Reds to the National League title last season and return to the Football League following a 15-year absence.

Wrexham have picked up where they left off in 2023-24 with the Reds currently second in League Two, two points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

Harvey - advisor to the board and recently-appointed director of the club - says Wrexham have reaped the rewards for planning for the future with Parkinson already boasting a strong squad.

But he stressed the need for continual improvement and as well as new signings at The Racecourse, players who have played their part in the success story falling out of favour as the Reds' squad continues to evolve.

"It was a glib answer at times to question us in the National League about getting a team together that could play in League One," said Harvey.

"We weren't. We were getting a team together that could win the National League and then when and if we get promoted, were able to take the club forward.

"That's why there will always be a continuous evolution of the playing squad because we need to improve window on window, whether that's multiple signings or just a very small number.

"It will depend on where we see the next chapter or the next part of the journey.

"The players that got us promoted that haven't featured regularly are no worse players today than they were then. It's just that the club has moved on.

"Part of it is down to opportunity; there's many a player who never had an opportunity at a particular club that goes on to be successful elsewhere.

"Because we have been able to build from the National League, we have been able to put a squad together for a purpose.

"Some added value to the team straight away, some added value for the future and that balance should always keep us in good stead and see us improve window on window."
