TRYING to secure a second successive promotion is the priority but the FA Cup will always be special.
I was lucky enough to see Wrexham pull off some big shocks in the 1990s, including the biggest ever upset against Arsenal, and they are some of my fondest memories following the club.
Reaching the third round back then seemed almost like a certainty and the Reds are making a habit of it again under Phil Parkinson.
Beating Championship high-fliers Coventry City 4-3 at this stage 12 months ago was another unforgettable occasion.
The atmosphere in the CBS Arena was incredible and it will be the same when Wrexham make the short trip to arch rivals Shrewsbury Town on Sunday.
It’s the first cross-border derby against the Shrews for 16 years and while beating the League One outfit would not be one of the Reds’ biggest scalps, bragging rights are up for grabs as well as a place in the fourth round.
The FA Cup wasn’t a distraction in 2022-23 and I would love Wrexham’s involvement in the competition to go on for as long as possible this season!
