MATT COMPTON is aiming high when 2024 gets underway.

Deeside Dragons climbed to third in the NIHL Division One North standings thanks to an 8-2 win over Nottingham Lions, with Karl Bacon (pictured) providing an MVP performance.

Deeside can now look forward to a two-week break from action and Dragons’ assistant head coach Compton said: “We’re still only 18 months in as a team.

“I think we can definitely climb higher.

“The players have got to work as a team and I think on our day, we can beat anyone in the league.

“On paper, we have got a really good side, but on the day they have got to come as one.

“We are close and hopefully we will get there in the new year.”

Deeside return to action with a trip to Blackburn Hawks on January 6.
