ASA HAMILTON could not be prouder of his Buckley Town players after they booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup.

A 2-0 triumph at fellow Cymru North outfit Porthmadog made sure of Buckley’s progress into the last-eight and the foundation for the victory was laid in the first half.

“Today, honestly, I’m so proud of them,” interim boss Hamilton told the club’s Facebook page.

“First half... we wanted to win the toss so we’d kick against the wind.

“It was about 120mph the wind. So difficult.

“So, I said I need men to go and stand up and fight, make sure we don’t concede and the boys, honestly, so proud of them.”

Five minutes into the second half and Buckley had the lead.

From a Sam McCormick corner, Callum Humphries’ header was saved by Alex Ward-Jones, but Humphries tucked away the rebound.

Liam Driscoll then added his side’s second goal midway through the second half, with Dylan Roberts supplying the assist.

Cardiff Met are also through to the next round as penalties ensured they got the better of fellow Cymru Premier League side Haverfordwest County.

Martell Taylor-Crossdale gave County the lead after half-an-hour, but this was cancelled out by Lewis Rees early in the second half.

Cardiff Met went on to win the shootout 4-2.

Also through are Briton Ferry Llansawel, who defeated Llanelli Town 1-0 in the battle of the top two teams in Cymru South.

Luke Bowen grabbed the only goal of the tie seven minutes into the second half.
