SEEING a camera crew at the Essity Stadium on Saturday won’t faze Flint Town United one bit!

S4C’s Sgorio cameras will be out in force for the big last-16 derby between the Silkmen and Connah’s Quay Nomads - but Flint players are already stars of the small screen.

A camera crew has been following Flint around since their penalty shootout success at Bangor 1876 in the last round.

“We have done some stuff with them,” said Flint boss Lee Fowler, who explained the crew is following clubs until they depart the competition.

Both clubs use the Essity Stadium as their home ground and on this occasion, it will be Cymru Premier League Connah’s Quay Nomads who are the “visitors”.

Nomads boss Neil Gibson, who left The Silkmen to take over as Quay manager, has praised his old club for having the foresight to bring in a 3G pitch.

Flint owner Darryl Williams wanted the ground to be utilised by the community, with Flint, Nomads and Flint Mountain, who have also made it to the last-16 of the Welsh Cup, all reaping the rewards of playing at The Essity Stadium this season.

“You have to give Darryl and Flint credit for bringing in the 3G pitch and we’re all benefitting from it,” said Gibson, whose side have scored 44 goals in 11 home games this season.

Flint are also one of the top scorers in the Cymru North where they are in the fight for an immediate return to Welsh football’s top flight.

“It’s great to see Flint doing well,” added Gibson. “Being an ex-manager, you always wants to see your old teams do well.

“We’ve enjoyed our switch from The Deeside Stadium to Flint and I’d like to think our fans are enjoying our style of play.”

A big crowd is anticipated for the 5.35pm tie and ahead of the derby, both Flint and Connah’s Quay have joined forces in showing their joint support for the Flintshire Foodbank.

Ahead of kick off, there will be donation points just outside the turnstiles allowing spectators from both clubs to donate food to those less fortunate this festive period before entering the Essity Stadium.
