WREXHAM athletes have certainly made the most of home comforts.

Wrexham hosted the latest round of the Borders Road Running League - and four Wrexham AAC vests were amongst the top-10 male finishers.

Leading the home charge was Matthew Willis, who crossed the line first in 28.42.

And there was also glory for Buckley’s Tracy Rogers, who continued her excellent form and finished in first place in the women’s race.

Men’s winner Willis was followed by third-placed Ryan Davis (29.43), Connor Rogers (fifth in 30.08) and Ben Goodfellow (eighth in 30.50).

Wrexham’s men’s team topped Division One on the day with 196 points.

Wrexham’s leading lady was Immy Jones, who clocked 40.52 for 26th spot.

She was followed by Rowena Lewis (66th in 47.32), Anna Moccia (68th in 47.58) and Sarah Grimshaw (72nd in 48.28) as Wrexham’s women were fifth in Division Two.

Although second overall on the day, the Buckley Runners’ men’s team were able to extend their lead at the top of the Division One table by nearly 200 points, with the top 10 men all in the first 56 positions.

Buckley’s men’s veterans team were victorious on the day as were the women’s team, with the men extending their lead at the top and the women climbing up to third.

The women’s senior team remain fourth in Division One after a solid fourth-placed finish on the day.

In the men’s race, Ricky Challinor was seventh, followed by Elliot Cox (11th), David White (13th), second MV45 Chris Callaghan (18th), Tim Joy (32nd), Chris Myles (33rd), Ben Williams (35th) and Sam Bellis (36th).

Second MV40 on the day was Matt Rose (44th), with clubmate Simon Roberts (56th) the first MV50.

Prizes also went to second MV50 Jez Brown (57th), first MV60 Eric Campbell (70th) and third MV55 Eddie Davies (101st).

In the latest instalment of the 6k Dash In The Dark at Llandegla Forest, Christine Cammillare won the LV40 category in 34:50.

Kev Burns completed his 100th parkrun in a steady, pre-race 29.36 at Ellesmere Port on a weekend where not all events went ahead due to the freezing conditions.

One person who didn’t have to worry about the weather was Deestrider James Bruce, however he did have the challenge of the Valencia marathon.

Despite hitting the wall at 21 miles, he managed a stunning personal best of 2-47.06.
