The Essity Stadium could have been the Welsh Cup capital tomorrow but Flint Mountain manager Aden Shannon is more than happy to take his side’s fourth round home tie to Park Hall.

With Sgorio picking Flint Town United’s derby date with tenants, Connah’s Quay Nomads, for the 5.35pm kick off, there could have been a chance to stage a big double header at the ground with Mountain, who also use The Silkmen’s all-weather surface, taking on South Gower.

But Mountain were forced to look elsewhere to avoid being told to reverse the tie to South Wales.

“We weren’t having that,” said Mountain boss Shannon. “We originally wanted to play at Airbus but that didn’t happen so I rang Craig Harrison at TNS and he said not to worry and that he’d shuffle things about so we could play at Park Hall.

“It’s not too far for the lads and our fans to travel and we’re really looking forward to it. We were keen to play on astro as it suits the way we play.”

The Welsh Cup is one of four competitions Flint are still involved in having already reached the semi-finals of the North East Wales FA Cup as well as getting through to the latter stages of the Welsh Trophy and Ardal League Cup.

“We’re doing well, especially in the cup competitions and we are always confident going into games,” added Shannon, who has attracted ex-Chester players John Danby and Lloyd Ellams to the ambitious club.

“We’re not discounting the league too but we could be a bit like Denbigh were last season. They were playing catch-up. But if we can do what Denbigh did by the end of the season, we’ll take that.”

Shannon is blessed with a quality squad and admits that in recent weeks keeping all the players happy has been a concern.

“Everyone wants to play but credit to the players, they keep turning up for training and that’s brilliant.

“We want that desire and I’ve told them that if we get beat by quality on Saturday, I can accept that. But what I don’t want to be beaten by is desire and effort.”

Shannon will decide on his best XI for the tie but it’s almost certain that Mike Hayes and Rob Hughes will feature.

“Mike’s been unbelievable since he came here and Rob’s one of the those players you always want on your side as you’d hate to have hin playing against you.”
