DEESIDE athletes have certainly impressed on the national stage.

There were triumphs from Deeside AAC at the Welsh pentathlon combined events championships.

Olivia Scrimshaw won the U16 girls’ events. During the competition, she set three personal bests - in the 800m, shot and a championship record in the 60m hurdles.

Toby Lemon also set three personal bests in the winning the U16 boys’ competition.

These came in the 200m, 60m hurdles and long jump.

Aidan Angiletta was fourth in the same section, where he set personal bests in the shot, 800m and 60m hurdles.

All three athletes will now represent Wales at the British schools championships this Saturday.

Following some top class performances over the last outdoor season, Olivia Scrimshaw and Lilly Noble have been awarded a place on the Welsh national development programme.

Adding to the good news, Olivia’s excellent performances across a number of events, including numerous British and Welsh titles, plus the British triple jump record, saw her pick up the Denbighshire award of excellence at the Active Communities Awards ceremony.

North East Wales racers were out in force for the North Wales cross-country league fixture at Baschurch.

Immy Jones (36th in 22.37) was Wrexham’s leading senior woman, followed by Linda Jones (82nd in 25.29) and Alex Edwards (126th in 29.36).

Sixth-placed Ben Goodfellow (26.34) was the top Wrexham man at the event, with Daniel Weston clocking 27.24 for 17th. They were followed by Ally Hughes (47th in 30.01), Tony Forster (105th in 33.16), Mike Robbins (126th in 34.35) and Richard Westwood (150th in 36.38).

In the M65 class, Philip Walker’s time of 30.13 saw him 32nd, three spots ahead of Charles Ashley (30.36).

Buckley had another excellent showing, with 13 men and six women competing - and five podium finishers in their age categories.

In the women’s race, Jen Rambaldi was 17th overall and third in the FV35 category, followed by Jane Doughton (43rd), Gwennan Henstock (72nd), Sian Meirion (111th), Jane Lindley (119th) and Susan Ridings (147th).

The women’s team was eighth on the day and they sit seventh in Division One, with the masters fifth overall after finishing sixth on the day.

Over to the men, where Chris Callaghan was 21st overall and first MV45.

First MV50 was Jez Brown (42nd), Eric Campbell (63rd) was the second MV60 and third MV50 was Simon Roberts (54th).

Other placings: 32, Sam Bellis; 36, Tim Joy; 45, Gerard Coleman; 69, Andrew Peers; 71, Ryan Morrison; 97, Eddie Davies; 145, Dave Boothroyd; 148, Pete Gray; 160, Huw Lewis.

Buckley’s men were fifth on the day and they’re fifth overall, while the masters - second on the day - sit third in the standings.

Wrexham youngsters also impressed, with Evie Hughes (15.36) fourth in the U15 girls’ race and Gwenllian Roberts (5.20) 10th in the U11 girls’ event.

Competing in the U13 girls’ race were Bethan Roberts (11th in 10.05) and Grace Hughes (13th in 10.22).

Things have got festive for a Wrexham AAC quintet!

James Nicholls (pictured left) achieved 34.09 to cross the line 62nd at the Wilmslow festive 10k.

He was followed by Anna Moccia (1,678th in 51.26), Simon Williams (2,130th in 55.20), Karl Moore (2,150th in 55.21) and Charles Ashley (2,241st in 56.23).

Deestriders returned home with a stunning haul of personal bests.

These went to Max Dowell (37.24), Andy Billington (42.21) and Steph Salisbury (50.26).

Other chip times: Tony Woodall 39.09; Darren Low 49.30; Karen Waugh 1-34.23.

Deestrider Christine Cammillare took part in both days of the two-day canicross 5k at the Rhug Estate, Corwen, with Ben the collie.

Wrexham’s Connor Rogers (16.22) was the winner of the most recent Princes parkrun, while Ellis Jones was second at the Alyn Waters junior parkrun.
