IT’S all about getting back to what works best for the Deeside Dragons ahead of another busy weekend.

There’s another double-header on the horizon for the Dragons in North Division One, with matches at local rivals Widnes Wild set for tomorrow and Sunday.

“We know plenty about them,” said Dragons’ assistant head coach Matt Compton.

“They’re a bit odd this year.

“They have got some deal with a Scottish club, so they can be quite strong.

“It’s a local derby and we have got to make sure we’re prepared for it.”

Over the autumn, Deeside were in irresistable form as they gathered eight consecutive victories in the league.

However, since this run was ended by defeat at the hands of Blackburn Hawks, Deeside have only managed to triumph once.

“We’ve just got to reset a bit and get back how we were playing,” added Compton.

“I think we have got away from our game in the last couple of games.”

There was a mixed bag of outcomes for Deeside last weekend.

They gained a positive 5-2 outcome at Sheffield Scimitars last Saturday, while Deeside held the lead on three occasions before suffering a 6-3 loss at the hands of Blackburn 24 hours later.

“We just got away from our game towards the end of the second period and the beginning of the third period, and we didn’t quite get there,” added Compton.

“It was a real tough one to take, especially with it being a local derby.

“We’ve got next weekend to readjust.”

While results have been mixed of late, there have been a number of bright spots for the Dragons.

“We did have some really good performances,” said Compton.

“James Parsons is improving every game.

“He scored as well and there’s definitely positives to take off the weekend.

“MJ Clancy played really well as well.”

Tomorrow’s clash at Widnes is also an M56 Cup encounter.

This is a mini competition involving the Dragons and Wild, in addition to Blackburn Hawks.

Other fixture: Saturday: Billingham Stars v Solihull Barons. Sunday: Sheffield Scimitars v Blackburn Hawks; Solihull Barons v Hull Jets; Whitley Warriors v Billingham Stars.
