IT was a real team effort as Wrexham racers claimed prizes at the Welsh inter region and schools cross-country championships.

Newtown played host to the races and Wrexham AAC members were part of a variety of North Wales teams who claimed success.

The regional U17 women’s team finished in first position and part of the line-up was Immy Jones, who was 18th in 24.34.

North Wales took second spot in the U13 girls’ section, where Wrexham’s Bethan Roberts clocked 10.48 for 33rd position and Grace Hughes was 52nd in 11.18, while Linda Jones (15th in 32.25) was a member of the regional team that finished as runners-up in the W55 class.

Also representing the region were Evie Hughes (16.46), who was 31st in the U15 girls’ event, and Ally Hughes (41.08), the 35th M35.

George Hughes represented Ysgol St Mary’s in the boys’ year three and four race, finishing 18th in 5.36.

Also representing North Wales was Deestrider Tony Woodall. Running in the 45-54 age group, he gave an excellent performance to complete the muddy six-mile course in 41.37.

Buckley Runners were well represented with 19 athletes taking part for the North Wales team.

In the women’s race, Tracy Rogers was fourth overall and the first MW35 category, followed by Jen Rambaldi (29th), Jane Doughton (58th), Gwennan Henstock (96th), Amanda Mountford (120th), Margaret Ludden (141st) and Jane Lindley (167th).

In the men’s race, Chris Callaghan was 27th and third in the MM45 category.

There were two Wrexham AAC vests amongst the top-five finishers in the Conwy half-marathon,

Runner-up on the day was Ryan Davis (1-14.28), while a time of 1-17.44 saw James Yarwood in fifth position.

Clubmate Alex Edwards was 1,840th in 2-17.21.

Deestriders were well represented at the wet and windy race, with many arriving at the event by minibus, kindly arranged and driven by club member Justin Evans, even though he was unable to compete himself due to an ankle injury.

Less than five months after breaking his femur in a cycling accident, Martin Witty clocked 2-38.24.

At the Penmaenmawr fell race, Wrexham’s Robert James Miles achieved 1-39.35 for 31st position.

Deestrider Allan Mckeown was the third MV45 in 1-34.27 and Christine Cammillare won the FV40 category in 1-57.40.

Clubmate Andy Billington ran 43.58 at the Tatton 10k, while a 109th-placed finish went the way of Wrexham’s Alyson Winn (1-36.59) at the Betws-y-Coed 10k trail challenge.

Daniel Weston (third in 18.32) was the leading Wrexham athlete at the Erddig parkrun.

It was a Wrexham 1-2-3 at the latest Alyn Waters junior parkrun.

Spencer Jones triumphed in a time of 7.27, followed by runner-up Ellis Jones (9.36) and third-placed Annabelle Jones (9.39), while Senna Thomas clocked 9.57 to cross the line in fifth.
