GIVING youth a chance is the priority for Lee Fowler this weekend.

His Flint Town United side play host to Denbigh Town in the Cymru North Cup tomorrow and manager Fowler is keen to give the talented youngsters at his disposal the chance to shine.

“This week, it could be the youngest team that’s ever played for Flint,” said Fowler ahead of the tie.

“We are going to give the kids the opportunity to go and play in the game.

“It’s something we believe in as a club and I do as a manager.”

Tomorrow follows on from last Saturday’s amazing 9-4 victory for the Silkmen against Llanidloes in the league.

The contest was the highest-scoring match since the formation of Cymru North and there were plenty of youngsters among the Flint ranks.

Sixteen-year-old goalkeeper Luke Murphy came off the bench late on, becoming the youngest ever Flint player, while teenagers Morgan Roberts, Ben Hughes and Harley Brindley-Peagram also featured.

The latter grabbed two goals on the day, while Elliott Reeves and Josh Jones both netted hat-tricks.

“To be honest with you, it could have been more,” added Fowler.

“If it finished 5-4 or 6-4, I would be critical of the goals that went in.

“We were high energy and ruthless in front of goal.

“In terms of how we were, that’s the type of performance we have been looking for this season.

“It was pleasing. The style of football was outstanding.

“The energy we had was too much for them.”

Mold Alex will be heading to mid-Wales in the cup tomorrow - and manager Mike Cunningham (pictured below) hopes lightning strikes twice.

Next up for Alex is their tie at Guilsfield.

“Guilsfield will be tough, a difficult place to go,” said Cunningham, whose side excelled in a 3-0 league win over Nathan Leonard’s side at Alyn Park two months ago.

Mold were equally impressive 5-1 winners at Gresford Athletic in the league a week ago and Cunningham added: “We’ve shown in the league game we can compete but we have to perform to our level.

“We welcome back Alex Smith from suspension and Ryan Coney should be available for selection.”

There are two other ties scheduled for tomorrow.

Llanidloes will look to recover from their heavy defeat to Flint when they welcome Llandudno.

Meanwhile, there’s an all-Denbighshire encounter as Ruthin Town pay a visit to Prestatyn Town.
