NEIL GIBSON is a tough boss to please!

His Connah’s Quay Nomads side return to league action with Sunday’s home clash with Haverfordwest County, which follows on from last weekend’s comfortable 8-0 Welsh Cup success over his former club Prestatyn.

Hat-trick hero Jordan Davies and two-goal Callum Morris took the main plaudits for Quay, however while praising the dynamic duo, Nomads’ boss Gibson also reflected on the ones that got away.

He told the club’s X site: “I thought Callum’s finishes were excellent. Showed a real level of composure in the first half where we were snatching at chances and Callum’s took his two really, really well.

“Jordan Davies has obviously been in great goalscoring form all season.

“You know, we’ve been having conversations with Jord about, you know, trying to take those chances and being more clinical.

“I thought his finishes were really good tonight, but he knows himself that he probably left a few out there as well, as have some other players.”

That win saw Nomads bounce back in style after a 3-1 loss at Cardiff Met in their last league match.

Gibson added: “I was pleased for the players, because it was difficult last week.

“You know, we created equally as many chances last week and we didn’t take them.

“We had equally as many opportunities last week and didn’t take them, so today it was pleasing for them to get back to goalscoring form and then try and move that forward now next week into the league.”

There are a further three games scheduled for Sunday.

Manager Steve Evans will be hoping Colwyn Bay’s Welsh Cup win at Newtown will serve as a catalyst for improved fortunes in the league.

The Seagulls, who travel to Pontypridd on Sunday, are in the relegation zone, but spirits were boosted by a superb penalty shootout success at Newtown, who are well established in the top-four.

After that win, Evans told Bay’s YouTube channel: “We’ve worked hard to get to this point and I said to the lads at the start of the game, I said ‘come on, let’s make sure that we go and kick-start our season’.

“And... if we put performances in like that, week-in week-out, hopefully it will kick-start our season and we’ll start to improve.”

Newtown, who moved up to third spot after winning 1-0 at Aberystwyth Town on Tuesday night, will travel to Penybont on Sunday afternoon, while Caernarfon Town host Barry Town United.

There’s one Cymru Premier League match this evening, with Aberystwyth Town hosting Colin Caton’s Bala Town.

It’s a repeat of last week’s Welsh Cup match-up between the sides, which was settled by Iwan Roberts’ goal 10 minutes from time for the Lakesiders.

A win for TNS at home to Holywell Town tonight will put them back on top of the FAW Reserves North League.

Nomads currently lead the way but Jon McCarthy’s side aren’t in action until Monday when they visit Llandudno.

Tomorrow’s fixtures: Ruthin v Denbigh; Gresford Ath v Buckley; Mold Alex v Porthmadog.

Flint Mountain - front-runners in the Tier 3 League - head to Brickfield tomorrow.

Other fixtures: Nantlle Vale v Pwllheli; Hawarden v Conwy Boro; Cefn Alb v Llangollen; Llangefni v Llanrwst; Saltney v Llay; Rhos Aelwyd v St Asaph.
