PHIL PARKINSON says his squad will be needed more than ever with Wrexham still going strong on three fronts.

Saturday's 2-0 win against Gillingham at The Racecourse extended the unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions and took the Reds up to second in League Two, five points behind leaders Stockport County.

The promotion challenge is the priority but there is also an FA Cup second round tie at home to National League South leaders Yeovil Town to look forward to next month and Wrexham have also reached the EFL Trophy knockout stages.

Parkinson is not short of options after compiling a squad with strength in depth and he knows the starting XI will still be strong when he makes changes as the fixtures come thick and fast.

"You need a squad in the league if you are winning in the cups," said Parkinson.

"You need a squad to deal with all these games.

"It is so important that we have got players we are confident we can put in and it doesn't weaken the group.

"The lads are really together and the most important group of players are the ones not in the team on a Friday morning when Steve Parkin and I are concentrating on the 11 who are starting.

"The attitude in that group is key for us and it is always spot on."

There have been no shortage of late goals and comebacks this season but Parkinson was pleased to register a comfortable win against Gillingham.

Ollie Palmer put the Reds ahead after just 57 seconds and Ben Tozer made the game safe in the second half.

"The perfect scenario is a win and a clean sheet," said Parkinson.

"But we will take the wins however they come, whether it is a late goal when we have brought substitutes on or it is a game where we have been in control like against Gillingham.

"We were solid defensively against a team with a lot of attacking threat in their side, even though they haven't got the goals this season you would expect with the players they have got.

"In one v one situations in general, we were really good and we were comfortable without the ball.

"There was one shot in the first half that went across the face of the goal but Arthur Okonkwo's not really had a shot to make.

"It was a comfortable 2-0 win but it was hard work that got that comfortable feeling out on the pitch."
