IT'S a case of one in, one out for Wrexham in the left wing-back position this weekend.

James McClean and Jacob Mendy have been called up for international duty with Republic of Ireland and Gambia respectively.

McClean has been named in the Ireland squad for next Tuesday's friendly against New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium.

The 34-year-old will represent his country for the 103rd and final time after announcing his retirement in October.

Mendy has been selected by Gambia who start their World Cup qualifying campaign against Burundi on Thursday before facing Ivory Coast next Monday.

That means Mendy, yet to make his debut for the national team, will be unavailable for Saturday's League Two trip to Accrington Stanley but McClean can feature before joining up with the Ireland squad.

McClean missed Saturday's 2-0 home win over Gillingham, which extended the unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions and took Wrexham up to second place in the table, as he served a one-match ban.

Mendy came into the side but McClean, who scored his first goal for the Reds when he came off the bench in last Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Port Vale in the EFL Trophy,  is set for an immediate return at Accrington.

"We are hoping James is available on Saturday and then he will go for his farewell game against New Zealand," said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson.

Mendy made the most of his chance against Gillingham, setting up Ben Tozer for the second goal, and he impressed his manager.

"It was good for Jacob to play," said Parkinson.

"He was ill last week so we didn't start him at Mansfield and it was a strong, powerful performance from Jacob.

"The icing on the cake was the assist."
